ScreenPlace Use Case

How to Arrange Multiple Windows of the Same App on Mac

Edit window in the ScreenPlace app

You often have multiple windows of the same app open, each for something different. For example, you might have two Safari windows, one for reading and one for watching a video, or two Notes windows, one with your to-do list and one for writing. Ideally, each of them would always have its own place on your screen.

macOS lets you move and resize each window manually, but with ScreenPlace you can configure a specific size and position for each of them and have it applied automatically when you open them.

Save the Size and Position

Place a window where you want it and save its current size and position with a single click using ScreenPlace’s badge, or configure precise X, Y, width, and height values in ScreenPlace. Once the window is added, you can select a specific window matcher for it on the screen for editing a window.

Match Windows by Titles

If you need a specific window to always be in the same place, you can match it by its title in ScreenPlace. The Title is Exactly option matches a window with the exact title you enter, and the Title Contains option matches any window whose title includes the text you enter. For more advanced configurations, ScreenPlace also offers the Title Matches Regex option, which lets you match windows using a specific pattern.

Match Windows by Order

With the Window at Index option, ScreenPlace can match windows by their order, such as the first and second window of an app. For example, you can have the first Safari window take up the left half of your screen, and the second one the right half.

You can select how ScreenPlace counts windows using the Window Order option. The Opening Order option counts from the window that was opened first and keeps the order while the windows stay open, while the Front to Back option counts from the topmost window.

Apply Automatically

Just enable auto-apply in the settings of the app and when adding each window, and ScreenPlace will take it from there - every window of the app will open in its own place.

Auto-apply requires ScreenPlace Ultra, which also comes with multi-display support, global shortcuts, reusable templates, and more - it’s a one-time purchase with no subscription.
