ScreenPlace Use Case

How to Make Finder Windows Open at the Same Size

Edit window in the ScreenPlace app

If you prefer your Finder windows to have a specific size and be in a specific place on your screen, it can be frustrating when a new Finder window opens somewhere else at a different size. For example, you might like Finder to be in the center of your screen, wide enough to show the full names of your files, but when you open a new window, you might sometimes need to resize and move it manually.

macOS tries to remember the sizes and positions of your Finder windows, but ScreenPlace can make every Finder window always open at the exact size and position you prefer.

Save the Size and Position

Place a Finder window where you want it and save its current size and position with a single click using ScreenPlace’s badge, or configure precise X, Y, width, and height values in ScreenPlace.

Apply Automatically

Just enable auto-apply in the settings of the app and when adding the Finder window, and select the All Windows matcher option. ScreenPlace will take it from there - every new Finder window you open will always have the right size and position.

Use a Different Size and Position for Specific Folders

With smart window matching, ScreenPlace can also match specific Finder windows by their titles, which show the names of the folders. For example, you can configure your Documents folder to always open in a larger window, while every other Finder window opens at your usual size. You just need to add another window in ScreenPlace with the Title is Exactly matcher set to the name of the folder, and then exclude it from the All Windows matcher.

Restore with the Badge

If you accidentally resize or move a Finder window, you can always use ScreenPlace’s badge to snap it back into place with a single click.

Auto-apply requires ScreenPlace Ultra, which also comes with multi-display support, global shortcuts, reusable templates, and more - it’s a one-time purchase with no subscription.
