ScreenPlace Use Case

How to Use Different Window Layouts on Mac Desktop Spaces

Edit workspace in the ScreenPlace app

When you use multiple desktops on your Mac, each of them is often used for something different. For example, you might have Safari and Notes windows side by side on your first desktop for research, and Calendar and Reminders on your second desktop for planning your day.

macOS lets you create multiple desktops and switch between them, but with ScreenPlace you can configure a specific window layout for each of them and have all of the windows put into place automatically as soon as you switch between them.

Create a Workspace for Each Desktop

Create a separate workspace in ScreenPlace for each of your desktops, such as Research and Planning, and select a desktop for it using the Desktop option.

Save the Size and Position

Place a window where you want it and save its current size and position with a single click using ScreenPlace’s badge, or configure precise X, Y, width, and height values in ScreenPlace. You can also add all of your open windows at once.

Apply Automatically When Switching

Once a desktop is selected for a workspace, switching to the workspace from the menu bar or using a keyboard shortcut opens its desktop, and when you switch to a desktop yourself, ScreenPlace switches to its workspace automatically.

Just enable Switch Workspaces in the auto-apply settings and turn on auto-apply for each window when adding it, and ScreenPlace will take it from there - every time you switch to a desktop, ScreenPlace puts its windows into place.

Use Desktops on Multiple Displays

If the Displays have separate Spaces option is enabled in the Desktop & Dock settings of your Mac, you can select a desktop for each of your displays using the Desktops option on the screen for adding or editing a workspace. When you switch to the workspace, ScreenPlace automatically opens its selected desktop on each of your displays.

Multiple workspaces and auto-apply require ScreenPlace Ultra, which also comes with global shortcuts, reusable templates, and more - it’s a one-time purchase with no subscription.
